Cutting, grinding and polishing of rocks and minerals, and preparation of polished sections and thin sections

Instruments and procedures:

• Cut-off machine with a diamond cutting wheel
• Discoplan-TS: a precision cutting and grinding machine
• Montasupal: grinding machine with a diamond grinding wheel
• Lapping machine used with deagglomerated grinding powder (alumina) mixed with
• water before use

Polishing is carried out manually using diamond pastes of various grain size and diamond spray
