Department of physical properties of rocks

Research

Contemporary main research activities:

  • A laboratory study of behaviour of rocks, their strength and deformational properties during various load regime.
  • The study of elastic anisotropy under high confining pressure is based on the investigation of the relationship between the texture of rocks and their physical properties, especially the kinematic and dynamic parameters of elastic waves. Ultrasonic sounding method is applied under uniaxial and multiaxial loading.
  • Geophysical research of rock fracturing processes with using of seismoacoustic method. Analysis of brittle microfracturing origin on the basis of released elastic waves monitoring (source location, energetic balance, time-space-energetic distributions). Investigation of changes of artificial generated ultrasound waves propagation in the dependent on rock samples loading.
