Throughfall Chemistry

Throughfall is collected directly under the trees at the catchment. The catchment vegetation has two prevailing trees beech (Fagus Sylvatica) and spruce (Picea Abies). Therefore we sample throughfall under each at site LP6 (beech throughfall) and at site LP7 (spruce throughfall) (see the map). Samplers VOSS are used for sampling of the throughfall together with GCTC samplers. GCTC throughfall samplers were developed by Doc. Ing. Petr Skřivan, CSc. The GCTC samplers contain glass cone in the funnel. The cone prevents deposition of the tree debris, insect etc. in the funnel and thus the contamination of the sampled water. There is also an advantage of GCTC collectors because they do not collect the snow inth winter. Snow is not truly the throughfall because it does not penetrate with the tree. Throughfall samples are collected monthly.
